Loma Prieta Earthquake Stories
The kids and I were upstairs in the bonus room. They were playing some video games and I was getting ready to watch the World Series. When it started, my wife was getting dinner ready downstairs in the kitchen. After a second or two, she yelled up to us, but we were already on our way out of there and toward the stairs. We all headed out the front door and out to the curb in front of our house. We all just stood there watching the trees move and sway (fairly new housing so no big trees). After the shaking stopped it was very quiet and then a few seconds later we heard the sound of rushing water up the street. About two houses down and across the street, our neighbor’s pool had lost a bunch of water and it was flowing around the side of their house and our to the street.
I went quickly inside and noticed that our aquarium had lost about a third of it’s water but did not notice any other damage. I got on the phone and called my parents in Chico and told my dad that there had been a pretty big earthquake but that we were fine. He thought I was just kidding but was thankful I called.
I think that was the last outgoing call that we could make for a couple of days. The only other thing that happened at our home was a few things fell off of shelves.
